What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. The functional medicine model is patient-centered and focuses on each individual's unique biochemical makeup to better understand what is causing the problem. Unlike traditional medicine, which often focuses on treating symptoms, functional medicine takes a holistic approach, considering the interconnectedness of all body systems as well as discovering underlying factors that may generate a disease. The process to get started would be to schedule a new patient consultation and case evaluation. One of our practitioners will conduct a thorough investigation into a patient's medical history, lifestyle, genetics, socioeconomic factors, and environmental exposures to get a better understanding of what is going on in the patient's body. The next step would require the patient to undergo extensive diagnostic tests once your practitioner has reviewed all the information presented by the patient. A follow-up consultation is included. This is where we'll discuss the lab results together and provide the patient with the tools that need to navigate their journey towards optimal health. This healthcare plan includes patient education, detailed supplement and herbal medicine guidelines, dietary advice, and lifestyle modifications. Sources: https://www.ifm.org |
